Ask before guessing
If a size, item or preference is unclear, ask a short question. Guessing can create a problem that takes longer to fix than a clarification.
“Would you like the small or large size?”
Repeat the relevant details before you finalise an order. Keep the confirmation short enough that the customer can notice a mistake.
Know when to ask for help
If you do not know an ingredient, allergen, price or rule, use the approved source or ask the responsible colleague. Do not make a confident-sounding guess. Follow your business’s safety procedure for allergy or other safety concerns.
“Let me check that with the person responsible, so I give you the right answer.”
Practise an unclear order
One colleague places a deliberately incomplete order. The other asks only the questions needed to confirm it. Switch roles and discuss whether the conversation stayed clear and respectful.
Take it into the next shift
Notice one point where orders are often misunderstood. Agree a confirmation question with your team and use it consistently.
One idea is enough to start.
Try it on your next shift.
